Ford And Toyota Trucks Earn Safety Awards

A while ago the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) began testing roof strength as part of their program. A vehicle can not gain the Top Safety Pick award without its roof being able to withstand four times its weight before crushing by five inches. This is called rollover crash testing.

The Ford F-150 was able to withstand 4.7 times its weight. This only applies to trucks built after February 2011 when Ford made improvements to the roof strength. The Toyota Tundra withstood 4.5 times its own weight.

In addition to the roof strength testing, a top Safety Pick has to garner top ratings in frontal-offset, side-impact, and rear crash tests. These are the first trucks to earn the award since the IIHS included roof strength in its testing regimen.  Makes them seem like pretty appealing buys, no?  Why not check local Ford F-150 financing deals in your area.  Alternatively, you could go for a Toyota Tundra lease.  In either case, you will be getting a truck that a mid-size truck that offers heavy-duty safety.
