Hyundai Earns Another Top Safety Pick Award

The 2011 Hyundai Equus earned the coveted Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award in the large luxury vehicle category.

To earn the award a vehicle must have electronic stability control, as well as earn the top rating of Good in front, side, rear and rollover crash tests. In testing the Equus, the vehicle demonstrated a low risk of major injury during a 40-mph frontal-offset crash. The driver’s and rear passenger’s heads were protected from a 3,300-pound deformable barrier traveling at 31 mph during side impact testing. Rollover testing concentrates on a vehicle’s ability to withstand roof crushing forces equal to four times its weight. The Equus can withstand 4.87 times its weight.

The Equus makes the fifth Top Safety Pick awarded to Hyundai this year. We reported on the Hyundai Sonata safety not long ago.  Not bad for a vehicle given the Latin name for horse.
