NHTSA Best Safety Performers

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) releases its list of top rated cars for safety in each class every year. This year, like many years, there were several surprises.

The NHTSA rated cars this year on frontal- and side-impact crash tests and rollover-resistence evaluations including resistance to roof crushing.

It would be impossible to give you a complete list of all the cars evaluated, so here are the cars in several classes that received 5 out of 5 stars.

Small car

  • Chevrolet Cruze
  • Toyota Prius

Midsize cars

  • Honda Accord
  • Hyundai Sonata
  • Kia Optima

Luxury cars

  • BMW 5 series

  • Acura MDX
  • Chevrolet Traverse
  • Buick Enclave
  • GMC Acadia

  • Honda Odyssey

  • Chevrolet Silverado
  • GMC Sierra Crewcab

You can see that a few of the cars that you thought would be listed aren’t and a few you never would have thought of are.  Check here for new car quotes for any of these top safety models – online!

IIHS Top Safety Picks

5 New Additions To The IIHS ‘Top Safety Pick’ Honor Roll

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recently added five models to its list of 2011 ‘Top Safety Picks. All five would qualify as family cars by any standards.

General Motors was able to clean up by having three of its offerings on the list. The Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave, and GMC Acadia were rated tops in front crash and side impact tests, head restraint design, and more stringent roof-crush tests. The Honda Odyssey received the same ratings along with the Mini Cooper Clubman. The Clubman is the first Mini offering to receive top rankings from the IIHS.

The ratings have been pretty fluid this year because of new roof crush standards required by the federal government. Despite these new regulations, these five models are a great choices to insure the safety and welfare of your family.  Check out Chevy Traverse leases and GMC Acadia financing deals.
